Dining
Room Rugs
When choosing a rug for the dining room it
is important that the rug is large enough to sit underneath the table and
provides a nice visual frame for the table as well. Taking measurements before
purchasing large rugs is always a good idea to ensure that the rug will properly
frame the dining table and that there will not be any awkward spacing problems.
Although there are numerous types of large rugs for people to choose from ranging
between patterned to solidly colored rugs, it is often best to pick a rug that
matches your current dining room décor.
Choosing
the Right Rug Size and Shape
Since there are many different shapes for
dining room tables, it is important that the large rugs
for these rooms be a coordinating shape. For example, round or oval dining room
tables will look the best when they are sitting upon large round or oval rugs.
On the other hand, a square or rectangular dining room table should sit atop a
square or rectangular rug with similar dimensions. It is always a good idea to
choose a rug that is a little bit larger than the table because when the chairs
are pulled out from under the table they will not hit the edge of the carpet
and fall onto hard wood floor. It is better if the chairs have room to smoothly
slide out all the way on top of the rug.
Dining
Room Rugs: Solid or Patterned?
As a general rule of decorating, it usually
looks better when patterned furniture sits on a plain rug, or when plain
furniture sits atop a patterned rug so there is some variation in the room's
overall décor. Dining room furniture is
usually very plain and does not contain patterns so it is a good idea to put
down a patterned rug underneath the table. Though a plain or solidly colored
rug can be chosen, it is best to keep an open mind when it comes to patterns
because they can create an interesting dimension to the dining room space.
