Why Wool is the Ideal Fabric for Rugs

Wool fabric is used for numerous products, such as sweaters, blankets, jackets, socks, hats and gloves. Along with cotton, for hundreds of years it has been used for making a large majority of clothing and household furnishing. What is it about wool that makes it an ideal fabric for rugs?
Most individuals are aware that wool comes from sheep. Since as far back as 1500 BC, civilizations have used sheers and plucked wool from their sheep in order to make their products. Today, the large percentage of wool comes from Australia and is used for making apparel and carpet.
Wool is a preferred textile fabric for numerous reasons. It is able to retain heat, absorb moisture; it's resistant to static electricity, can be dyed for clothing and even considered to be hypoallergenic by some within the medical profession. Many of these qualities which make wool a safe and durable fabric are why wool rugs are preferred for household and commercial use.
Many of the synthetics which are being used to make carpets and rugs are a cause for alarm. First, many are flammable, which could lead to a house fire. They have also been known to cause problems for individuals with allergies.
Wool rugs are the ideal solution because of their durability, unique qualities and cost effectiveness.
