Elements to Consider When Purchasing a Rug

Color
One of the major things to consideration when purchasing a rug for a living room or other space is its color. Rugs come in all types of colors from neutrals and earth tones to the bright and bold colors of the rainbow. To keep a space looking minimal and sleek sometimes a neutral like a white, beige, grey or black is the best idea. Colored rugs can add a significant amount of brightness to a room, and it is sometimes much easier to add a colored rug to a space than to paint the walls.

Pattern
Rugs can be patterned with either color or texture. A rug can be one solid color with variations in its materials which add texture to form patterns, or it can be patterned with different graphic designs that involve changes in color. No matter how the pattern is depicted in the rug it adds an appealing element to a living room or other space. It is up to the customer whether they want that element to attention-grabbing with bold colors, or minimal with a simple change in texture.

Style
There are so many different styles of rugs that people can browse through when searching for the right piece for their rooms. These styles range from the traditional to the contemporary and everywhere else in between. Though a space may be traditionally decorated, the addition of a modern rug may give it a more interesting atmosphere. A traditional rug in a modern space can also add a nice mix of styles. Try experimenting with different rug styles to create something unique and different that matches your taste.

Texture
There are some rugs that feel like walking on a cloud, and then there are some that are made to be rougher and more textured under foot. The softness and texture of a rug is very important to the overall feel of the room. For example, the rug texture in a living room is usually right in the center between soft and rough because it is a high traffic area that needs a rug that is durable as well as soft on the feet. Softer rugs are usually reserved for the bedroom, while rougher ones may be used for doorway entrances.

Size
It is important for people to choose a rug that is an appropriate size for the room in which they want to place it. The rug should not be too small so that it looks out of place in the room, but it also should not cover more than 90% of the floor space. Choosing a rug that covers about one-third to one-half of the floor space is usually a good size for most rooms.
